Job Title: Assistant Project Coordinator
Empower Her NI Project – Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Organisation. Northern Ireland Refugees and Asylum Seekers Women Association (BOMOKO NI)
Responsible to: Service Manager
Location: Belfast, with regular travel throughout Northern Ireland
Hours of Work: 16 hours per week (flexible).
The role will require occasional evening and weekend work. Flexibility and mobility are essential to meet service delivery needs.
Contract: Fixed-term, subject to funding, until 30 December 2026, (Initial appointment for 12 months)
Salary: £12,456.36 per annum. (Inclusive of employer National Insurance and pension contributions)
Annual Leave: 24 days per annum (pro rata)
Pension: Employer pension contribution of up to 5%

Purpose of the Post: The Assistant Project Coordinator will support the effective delivery of Empower Her NI, a women-led Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) project supporting refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls who are at risk of, or experiencing, gender-based violence.
The post holder will assist with day-to-day project coordination, delivery of community-based activities, safeguarding processes, partnership engagement, and monitoring and evaluation. The role is central to ensuring services are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, survivor-centred, and compliant with safeguarding and funder requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Project Delivery and Coordination
• Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of Empower Her NI activities, including workshops, awareness sessions, and peer-support groups.
• Assist with logistical arrangements such as venue booking, materials, attendance registers, and participant support needs.
• Ensure activities are delivered in line with project plans, safeguarding standards, and funding agreements.
2. Safeguarding and Survivor Support
• Support safe, trauma-informed engagement with women and girls affected by, or at risk of, gender-based violence.
• Adhere at all times to BOMOKO NI safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection policies and procedures.
• Assist with signposting and referrals to specialist services, including Women’s Aid, legal advice, health, and wellbeing services.
3. Partnership and Community Engagement
• Support the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with statutory, voluntary, and community-sector partners.
• Engage refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls in culturally sensitive and inclusive ways, ensuring lived experience informs service delivery.
• Assist with outreach, awareness-raising, and community engagement activities.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
• Support the collection and recording of monitoring data, including attendance, outcomes, and participant feedback.
• Assist with surveys, case studies, and lived-experience feedback in line with ethical and safeguarding standards.
• Contribute to internal reviews, learning reports, and final project evaluations.
5. Administration and Team Support
• Maintain accurate records in compliance with GDPR and organisational procedures.
• Provide reception cover and welcome service users, partners, and visitors as required.
• Attend team meetings, supervision, training, and development opportunities.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Experience and Knowledge
• Experience (paid or voluntary) working in areas such as violence against
women and girls, safeguarding, wellbeing, or community support.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by refugee and asylum-seeking
women and girls, including trauma, cultural barriers, language needs, and
insecure immigration status.
• Knowledge of domestic abuse, sexual violence, safeguarding principles, and survivor-centred approaches.
• Awareness of how systemic barriers, migration, and discrimination impact access to services.
Skills and Abilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and respectfully with diverse communities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and with external partners.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Confidence in supporting group-based and community activities.
• Basic IT skills, including email, data entry, and online systems.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical practice at all times.
